It is know that human settlement in the region has been since the Paleolithic era. The lands ruled by the Hittites became a shelter for Christians in the following years. Christians fleeing the oppression of the Roman empire carved a city into the rocks.

Cappadocia is a region geographically spread over the cities of Nevşehir, Kırşehir, Niğde, Avanos and Kayseri. The most visited touristic places are Göreme, Uçhisar, Avanos, Ürgüp and Ihlara Valley.

Cappadocia region is a place where nature and history are integrate. While geographical events created the Fairy Chimneys, people also carved houses, churches and monasteries into these fairy chimneys in the historical process. Later, they established a civilization by decorating these structures with frescoes. Cappadocia has hosted commercial colonies throughout history and has created a social bridge. The city is also an important stop on the Silk Road.

The region has been under the influence of the Hittites, Persians and Romans throughout history. A Cappadocia kingdom was also establish in the region for a while. Many Christians took refuge in this region when Rome banned Christianity. The geographical structure of the region, consisting of deep valleys, protected Christians from Roman soldiers at that time. In this way, monasteries and churches equipped with unique frescoes have survived from that period to the present day.

The region had a trouble-free period when it was in the hands of the Seljuks and Ottomans. Today, Turkey welcomes many visitors every year within its borders.
